At the beginning of October, RACQ and the Queensland Government partnered together to launch Get Ready Week. Prepare yourself for the unknown as we are approaching the Queensland storm season. This article will give you some helpful information about tree safety preparation.

The Bureau of Meteorology predict the 2016 – 2017 to be an active storm season with above average cyclones forecast for Queensland. This year’s weather system is La Nina. Cyclones are generally more active in La Nina weather systems due to warmer than average ocean temperatures to the north and east of Australia. Although we are not classified in the high risk category we must be diligent and prepare for the worst. You must undertake adequate tree safety preparation to protect your family and home in a bad weather event. Prevention is far better than a cure!

Tree safety preparation tips to keep your family safe:-

  • Prune overhanging branches or trees close to your home.
  • Ensure there is adequate clearing around power lines.
  • Remove all dead / dying trees.
  • If necessary, cut a second access point (especially to reduce fire risk).
  • Check stability of soft wood trees located around your home & other infrastructure.
